The AstoundingAnalog Reader Volume One is an anthology of fifteen SF stories which
were originally published in Astounding between the years 1933 and 1946. It was first
published in hardcover in the United States in 1972 by Doubleday & Company. It was
published in England in paperback in October 1973, split in two volumes by Sphere
Books. It has never been reprinted in the United States. A second volume of the Reader
was published by Doubleday in 1973 containing stories which had appeared in Astounding
and Analog from 1947 to 1965.
From the dust jacket:
"The magazine that has done the most to shape modern science fiction is Astounding
Science Fiction, now retitled Analog Science Fiction— Science Fact.
Founded in 1929 and first published in January, 1930 as Astounding Stories, it began
maturing under the editorship of Harry Bates and moved into its unique position as
leader of the field in 1937, when John W. Campbell became editor. For over thirty
years his magazine has personified the best in science fiction.
